Just Like Everyone Else, BioWare Is Done With Anthem
BioWare announced what everyone kind of expected; Anthem is done, and will not be seeing any future updates. The rumored updated Anthem Next had been shown and teased a bit in the past, but nothing concrete. Anthem servers will remain online for the foreseeable future though.
The developer cited the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the reason, but developers will now be moved to working on Dragon Age 4, the next Mass Effect, and providing updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first two are still without a release window.
In the spirit of transparency and closure we wanted to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to stop our new development work on Anthem (aka Anthem NEXT). We will, however, continue to keep the Anthem live service running as it exists today.
2020 was a year unlike any other however and while we continue to make progress against all our game projects at BioWare, working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.
