Cuphead Getting Physical Edition for 5th Anniversary

Released what feels like much longer ago than just 5 years, Cuphead is celebrating its initial launch on PC and Xbox One today, September 29, with the announcement of a physical copy of the game coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.

No details on the copy are available yet aside from the cover art in the image, but those who want to know when it’s live for pre-orders are asked to sign up for iam8bit’s mailing list.

Developed by Studio MDHR (@StudioMDHR), named after its co-founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, Cuphead is a classic indie smash success story a la Indie Game: The Movie.

The game has sold over 6 million copies on all platforms as of its PS4 launch in July 2020 and the recently released, long-awaited DLC pack Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course (get it) sold over 1 million copies in just 2 weeks after it launched in June.

An animated Cuphead show premiered on Netflix this past February and has already been renewed for Season 2 (and a rumoured Season 3).

The physical copy is being manufactured and distributed in partnership with iam8bit (@iam8bit), a California-based company famous for its physical copies of indie games.

They’ve previously released physical copies of other popular Canadian indies like Spinch from PEI-based Queen Bee Games (@queenbeegames) or Grindstone from Toronto-based Capy Games (@CAPYGAMES).
