Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Officially Re-Revealed as Dragon Age: The Veilguard

After nine years of development, Edmonton-based BioWare has rebranded the follow-up to their award-winning 2014 RPG Dragon Age Inquisition.

Originally revealed as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at The Game Awards 2015, Geoff announced at Summer Game Fest this month the game is now called Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and they say they will release it this year.

Bioware alleges the decision to rename Dreadwolf had nothing to do with focus testing, according to a recent interview with IGN.

BioWare also alleges that the decision not to renew their contract with Edmonton-based QA studio Keywords was unrelated to the fact that 16 of their employees voted unanimously in favour of unionization in February 2022, making it the first unionized studio in Canadian history.

BioWare laid off 50 full time game developers earlier in 2024 despite parent company EA boasting “record cash flow and strong earnings” and a net revenue of $7.562 billion USD in their recent Q4 press release.

According to GiantBomb reporter Jeff Grubb, the game previously known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was originally slated for a release date in September 2023, but kept suffering from internal delays.

Despite having fired a number of people who were supposed to be working on it, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is allegedly releasing in “Fall 2024.”
