Retro Adventure Game Boreal Tales Out Now on Steam

Vancouver-based solo dev Snot Bubbles Productions has released Boreal Tales (@to_be_from), a retro adventure game available now for Steam and itch.io.

Snot Bubbles Productions (aka Daniel Beaulieu) had been working as an animator in Vancouver since 2013 and started working on assets for Boreal Tales in 2014 when they received a grant to make a web series pilot through Telus' Storyhive program.

Boreal Tales features music by Regina-based composer Ryan Hill also known as Guidewire (@guidewire) who created the tracks for the Telus Films and Beaulieu says was “essential to making Boreal Tales what it is.”

Delve into the dream of a dying town in ‘Boreal Tales’ , a retro-style adventure with horror elements. Taking cues from the fixed-camera angle games of the PS1 era, and the dream logic of works like ‘Yume Nikki’, vignettes beget vignettes in this web of Trees and Streets. Explore the interweaving narratives of a northern community, cast adrift in an increasingly urbanized world. The town is sick, anger seethes and builds like static in the signal. Will it navigate this sea of noise, or be washed away by the ‘Degraded Wave’?
