The Coalition Partnering with Netflix for Gears of War Movie and TV Show

Vancouver-based Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition (@coalitiongears) is producing a live-action Gears of War (@GearsofWar) movie and an animated Gears of War TV show in partnership with Netflix the company announced via their blog.

There are no further details about the two projects, Netflix merely recaps a bit of the first game’s story in a paragraph in their post so the film might follow a similar arc.

Gears of War was released 16 years ago today for the Xbox 360 spawning a tentpole Xbox franchise that most recently saw Gears 5 in 2020 as well as the cancelled licensed Funko Pop! mobile RTS Gears Pop!

Netflix is going all-in on game adaptations as coming up with a new and interesting idea is creatively challenging. Just licensing stuff people already know to get retold again without any gameplay this time is much easier.

Netflix has already announced Assassin’s Creed, Sonic Prime, BioShock and more game adaptation projects.
