FOUR NEW HEROES FROM THE FAR EAST ENTER THE BATTLEFIELD IN FOR HONOR:® MARCHING FIRE, LAUNCHING OCTOBER 16

Includes New Faction, 4v4 Game Mode, Unlimited PvE Content, Significant Graphical Enhancements and More

Los Angeles, CA — June 11, 2018 — Today, during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft announced Marching Fire, a new update coming to For Honor. For Honor: Marching Fire introduces the game’s largest post-launch content update, and includes the new Wu Lin faction, anew 4v4 PvP mode “Breach”, unlimited PvE content and more. The update will be available on October 16 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X and Windows PC.

Available as part of the Marching Fire update are four new Heroes of the Wu Lin – a new faction inspired by ancient Chinese martial arts. The four new Heroes include the Tiandi, the Jiang Jun, the Nuxia, and the Shaolin, who have traveled from the east to escape a civil war that has consumed their homeland following the cataclysm. Each consumed by their own motivations, ranging from betrayal to personal tragedies, these Wu Lin Heroes bring a brand-new set of weaponry and fighting styles to add more versatility to the battlefield. All Wu Lin Heroes can be recruited using in-game Steel following an initial exclusivity period, which will be announced at a later date.

Players will have access to the four warriors of the Wu Lin, alongside the existing roster of 18 Heroes in a brand-new 4v4 PvP game mode, Breach. The mode will be free for all players and playable across three new maps, allowing players to live the fantasy of storming or protecting a well-fortified castle armed with ballistae and cauldrons of fire as well as archers and a heavily armored Lord looking to protect his land. Attackers and defenders must strategically maneuver the battlefield as they escort, or attempt to destroy, a battering ram to gain access to the castle.

For Honor: Marching Fire will also introduce new unlimited PvE content playable in single player and two-player online co-op. This new PVE mode will be available as part of the paid bundle, which also includes the Wu Lin Heroes. More details about the PVE content and the paid bundle will be revealed soon.

Finally, all players will also benefit from free graphical enhancements that will improve the in-game textures, introduce a revamped lighting system and new sky gradients. Further quality of life improvements include an updated user interface and a speech realization system that will give all Heroes new personalities.

In celebration of the For Honor: Marching Fire announcement, all PC players can get the For Honor PC Starter Edition for free via Uplay from June 11-18. The PC Starter Edition gives players full access to all multiplayer game modes and the campaign mode as well as the three Vanguard Heroes with additional Heroes being recruitable using in-game Steel. All PC versions of the game will also be on sale for up to 75% off through June 18. Console players can take advantage of the up to 75% discount on For Honor on Xbox One until June 17 and PlayStation®4 system until June 19.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with other Ubisoft studios,* For Honor offers an engaging campaign and thrilling multiplayer modes. Players embody warriors of the three Great Factions – the bold Knights, the brutal Vikings and the deadly Samurai – fighting to the death on intense and believable melee battlefields. The Art of Battle, the game’s innovative combat system that puts players in total control of their warriors, allows them to utilize the unique skills and combat style of each hero to vanquish all enemies who stand in their way. With new training modes and dedicated servers, there has never been a better time to play For Honor.

Road To E3: ARia's Legacy

With E3 next week we're going to be doing the lead up to the event, and of course we'll be writing about the games shown at E3. One of those games will be Aria's Legacy from Pixel Crushers. Labeled as the first mobile AR Escape Room Experience, players will use their own mobile phone or tablet to solve over 50 levels of puzzles. You can check out the full press release and some screenshots below - but we'll get the full reveal at E3.

The First Mobile AR Escape Room Experience, ARia's Legacy, is Happening at E3
The Pixel Crushers will be showcasing an exclusive demo of ARia’s Legacy, the first augmented reality escape room game at E3 on June 12-14, 2018 at the Los Angeles Convention Center

TORONTO, CANADA, May 22, 2018 – An exclusive demo of ARia’s Legacy, the first mobile AR escape room video game, will be shown by developers The Pixel Crushers at E3 from June 12-14, 2018 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

ARia's Legacy is a true implementation of augmented reality. Instead of displaying objects on a table in front of you, it creates a virtual environment around your physical space that has you walking around your room discovering parts that were never there before. Through the power of AR, players can immerse themselves in 50 different levels of mystery anywhere using a mobile phone or tablet as they uncover the story behind ARia’s sudden disappearance and discover her legacy.

In ARia’s Legacy, you are a part of a team of archaeologists excitedly looking for artifacts at your newest archaeological site. Suddenly, your shovel strikes a chest that you quickly unearth with the help of various tools around you. When you try to open it, you are seemingly thrown into a locked room that is at once familiar and eerily foreign to you.

Your only clue seems to be the chest that you found and the name “ARia" ringing in your head.

With ARia’s Legacy, we created an immersive escape room experience that you can enjoy anywhere at any time,” says Galal Hassan, professor of George Brown College and The Pixel Crusher’s project manager. “Augmented reality is meant to have the player move around. Using your environment to solve puzzles is why AR was born. The most successful AR games are the ones that make you move. This is the future of gaming in AR.”

Attendees will be able to register in advance to skip the lines at E3 in order to try this convention exclusive hands-on demo of ARia’s Legacy on their website.

ARia’s Legacy is currently in development for both iOS and Android platforms. Follow the development of ARia’s Legacy on TwitterFacebook, and Instagram.

E3: Ubisoft CEO Has Not Forgotten Splinter Cell, Announces Starlink

Although Ubisoft did not mention any news about Splinter Cell, in a YouTube Live at E3 video, the CEO of Ubisoft has said "We are not forgetting Splinter Cell". Ubisoft Toronto's Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the last Splinter Cell game from 2013.

"I can't say much about that. For sure, all the Clancy games are taken care of. It's just that we have a lot on our plate at the moment and The Division continues to be played and Rainbow Six too. I think yesterday was even one of the highest numbers of players playing...So all the Clancy games are coming along. We are not forgetting Splinter Cell."

Ubisoft did announce Starlink: Battle for Atlas which will be available in Fall of 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.

E3: Alto's Odyssey Looks Great On Sand

Alto's Odyssey is set for release sometime this year, and it looks like we're trading in the snowy peaks of Alto's Adventure for sandy ones in Odyssey.  There was a Youtube interview from E3 that Kotaku wrote about:

"Eli Cymet, lead producer for development team Built By Snowman, talked with Gameslice host Geoff Keighley about Alto’s Odyssey yesterday at E3, showing off some of the game’s new moves. Wall rides and dynamic obstacles add some upward motion to the downhill boarding game without adding any control complexity—it’s still a simple one-finger game."

Ubisoft Toronto Announces Starlink: Battle for Atlas

Ubisoft have officially revealed what Ubisoft Toronto have been up to all these years - not since Splinter Cell: Blacklist have they been the main developers on a game.

Enter Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a space open-world adventure game where you can use real life figurines to build your ship:

"As you explore the Atlas Star System, you’ll do so with a physical ship clipped to your controller. Using Smart Building Technology, you’ll be able to immediately swap out parts on the ship – including wings, weapons, pilots, and even the starship hull itself – and see them change in-game to meet the shifting demands of your situation as you experiment with different combinations, weapons, and status effects. It’ll all come in handy as you’re dealing with the evil forces of a warlord named Grax, while also searching for allies to help you survive in a hostile system."

Preview - Thoughts On Cuphead, Below, and Arrowheads from E3

Hey everyone! So as I've been tweeting, I got to go to E3, and got to play a lot of great games. Some of those great games were developed in our own back yard. Here are some general thoughts I've had on them:

Cuphead from Studio MDHR

We've discussed this a few times on the podcast, but this game is beautiful. It's fluid and smooth, and it was great to confirm this in person. Platforming sections have just been announced and I got to play the section from the video we posted earlier.  The game is certainly difficult, but the controls are easy to grasp and similar to Megaman games of the past. I think once you get the level design down, and the placement of enemies you'll be flying - it will be interesting to see how long this takes. Sadly I didn't get a chance to try out a boss, but the 10 minutes I played left a great impression.

Below from Capybara Games

E3 probably isn't the best place to play test a game like Below, especially if it's the first time you've ever played it.  It deserves to be played in a dark room, with nothing else to get in the way with headphones on. You start the demo on a beach with your boat and before long you're going "below" in a mountain, fighting creatures and collecting items.  The atmospheric and creepy music matched my actions perfectly, and there appears to be some sort of crafting system, but I didn't get a chance to try it out.  Battling was similar to Legend of Zelda games of old, having a sword, shield, bow and arrow at your disposal, but with other weapons to pick up like a spear.  Below is planned for this summer, and I would turn off the lights when you play.

Arrowheads from OddBird Studio

You don't have to travel to Los Angles to play OddBird Studios multiplayer shooter.  You can download Arrowheads from their site right here, and when you do I recommend getting some friends to play along with. Think of it as a 3D Towerfall. The gang has added some extra levels since the last time I played it, and it's just as fun as ever.  The art and animations are colourful, the gameplay is solid, and the game is just straight up a lot of fun to play. If you want to hear some further discussion on it, make sure to listen to Episode 22 of our podcast, but keep this one on your radar.

Remember that this article was a Patreon early exclusive, which means they got to read it first. Become a Patreon today.

DrinkBox Studios Bringing Severed To Wii U, iOS, and 3DS This Summer

Fans of DrinkBox won't have to wait long, all three versions are expected to come out this Summer.
